Cash App now works with Chime through Plaid, and this means you can directly link your Chime account to Cash App by logging in to your banking portal powered by Plaid and transfer money from Chime to your Cash App instantly at no transfer cost.

How to Transfer Money from Chime to Cash App

If you have already visited this guide earlier, you'll notice that I hyped the Chime debit card method because, at that time, Chime couldn't integrate with Cash App directly through Plaid.

But now, the two apps do work together through Plaid, and I had to try it out to see how it works; it works just as well as linking any other bank to Cash App.

Step 1: Activate Your Physical Chime Card

As shown in the screenshot above, this method, while the official route, primarily requires you to have an activated Chime physical debit card. So if you haven't ordered your Chime card yet, you'll need to order it, wait for the physical card to arrive, and activate it before you can use Plaid to link your account to Cash App.

Step 1: Link Your Chime Account to Cash App through Plaid

Plaid simplifies the process of transmitting your account details from one platform to the other, and that is exactly what it does for this process. It facilitates the communication of your financial details from Chime to Cash App.

To link your Chime account to Cash App

  1. Open Cash App on your phone.
  2. Go to Linked Banks, then tap Link Bank.
  3. Follow the prompts to launch the Plaid screen, then search for and select Chime bank from the list.
  4. Enter your Chime banking login details to verify your identity and finish the connection.

Step 2: Transfer Your Funds from Chime to Cash App

After you've linked your Chime account to Cash App, you can already use your Chime account as a funding source for all your Cash App transactions.

But since we need to move the funds to our Cash App account balance, you can start transferring money between the two platforms the way you want, but only one way is free (which is the way we are using, which is from Chime to Cash App), as the other way will come at a cost charged by Cash App.

The process is just like adding money to your Cash App from an already linked bank account.

  1. Open Cash App on your phone.
  2. Tap the Money tab on your Cash App screen.
  3. Tap Add Cash.
  4. Choose or type the amount you want to add.
  5. Tap Add and enter your PIN to confirm.

There you go; you just added money from Chime to your Cash App balance in no time.

Alternative Methods to Transfer Money from Chime to Cash App

Chime already works with Cash App, but as far as I saw through some Reddit threads, most Cash App users still aren't able to link their Chime to Cash App, not because it isn't possible, but because of some server issues. So with that said, it is always good to know alternative methods that can come in handy in situations like this.

1. Use the Chime Debit Card

Cash App supports the Chime debit card directly, and Chime officially mentions that this card can be used to link your Chime account to Cash App.

To do so:

  1. Open Cash App on your mobile phone.
  2. Tap on your Profile icon in the upper right corner of the screen.
  3. Tap "Linked Banks."
  4. Tap "Link Debit Card."
  5. Enter your Chime debit card information where required.
  6. Click "Link Card."

After you have linked your Chime debit card to Cash App, transferring money from Chime to Cash App shouldn't be necessary since you should be able to use your Chime debit card as a funding source for your transactions through Cash App.

2. Use Chime's Routing and Account Number

This is the most traditional way to link your Chime account to Cash Ap.

Chime offers a routing and account number, that you can use not only to set up direct deposits but to transfer money between Chime and other platforms like Cash App.

To link Chime to Cash App through your routing and account number.:

  • Open Cash App on your phone.
  • Tap the Profile Icon on your Cash App home screen
  • Select "Linked Banks."
  • Tap "Link Bank."
  • Follow the prompts (you might be required to provide your Chime routing and account numbers in the next steps).

After linking Chime to Cash App, you should be able to transfer money from Chime to Cash App through the Add Cash feature of Cash App as follows:

  1. Tap the Money tab on your Cash App home screen.
  2. Tap "Add Cash."
  3. Choose an amount.
  4. Tap "Add."
  5. Use Touch ID or enter your PIN to confirm.

Alternatively, you can use your linked Chime bank account as a funding source for your transactions through Cash App.

3. Use Your Bank Account As A Bridge

If the aforementioned methods didn't work out for you, then the best option you have is to use your bank account as a bridge to transfer money from Chime to Cash App.

In this case, you'll need to make sure that your bank account is linked to both Cash App and Chime.

After linking your bank account to Cash App and Chime, the next thing to do will be to move funds from one account to the next in the order: Chime >> external bank account >> Cash App.

To transfer money from Chime to your external bank account:

  1. Log in to your Chime app.
  2. Select "Move Money."
  3. Select "Transfers."
  4. When you are prompted, enter the login credentials for your other bank (your external account).
  5. Transfer the funds.

Once you transfer the funds, the money should take 3 to 5 business days to arrive in your bank account.

The next thing to do will be to transfer money from your bank account to Cash App through the "Add Cash" feature of the app

Remember, your bank account needs to be linked to Cash App.

To transfer money from your bank account to Cash App:

  1. Tap the "Money" tab on your Cash App home screen.
  2. Press "Add Cash."
  3. Choose an amount.
  4. Tap "Add."
  5. Use Touch ID or enter your PIN to confirm.

After completing the steps, the funds should be loaded into your Cash App account. This is one of the best ways to add money to your Cash App balance.

4. Request Help from a Friend

Sometimes requesting a friend's or family member's help can be lifesaving. If you know a friend who uses both Chime and Cash App, you can ask them if they can help you with receiving funds on Chime in exchange for a Cash App payment.

Both Chime and Cash App have facilitated money transfers from one user to the next and have made them occur almost instantly. So you can use the Chime Pay Anyone feature to make an instant transfer from Chime to Chime, then your friend uses Cash App to instantly transfer the funds to your Cash App account.

How To Transfer Money From Chime To Cash App Without Debit Card

The best way to transfer money from Chime to Cash App without a debit card is to use Plaid, which will let you share your Chime banking details with Cash App to link your account securely to the digital payment service.

How Long Does It Take To Transfer Money From Chime To Cash App?

The time it takes to transfer money from Chime to Cash App depends on the method you use. The direct method (using Plaid) is the fastest, as it completes instantly.

However, if you use the Chime debit card, the Chime to Cash App transfer might be almost instant. On the other hand, if you use Chime's routing and account number, then the transfer can either be instant or take 1 to 3 business days to complete.

In case you use a linked bank account to transfer the funds, then the transfer might take 3 to 5 business days to complete.

Chime Card Not Supported On Cash App

Cash App can decline your card for many reasons, and to avoid this unfortunate situation, I'll recommend linking your account directly through Plaid.

If that still doesn't work for you, then using your bank account as a bridge might be the best way to proceed.

Final Thoughts

Chime now works with Cash App through Plaid, so you can link your Chime account to Cash App and instantly transfer funds between them.
