Cash App works with Chime directly through Plaid and through the Chime debit card. Find out how to transfer money from Cash App to Chime.

Chime links with Cash App in two official ways: through Plaid or through your Chime debit card. After you are done linking the apps, you should be able to transfer money from Cash App to Chime, which should take between 1 to 3 business days or instantly (at a cost).

Besides these official methods, there are still a couple of alternative methods, like using a linked bank or using your routing and account numbers to transfer the funds.

How to Transfer Money from Cash App to Chime

Of the two official methods available, I focused on using the Chime debit card as I mentioned in my guide to transferring money from Cash App to Chime, but since there's a way easier method to do this, I'll show you how to use Plaid to transfer the money in a shorter time than the other methods.

Step 1: Activate Your Chime Debit Card

The first thing I realized with this method is that it primarily requires you to have an activated Chime physical debit card. The card in the Chime app won't be enough alone; you'll need to make sure that you have received and activated your Chime card.

If you already have a Chime card, you can skip this step.

Step 2: Link Your Chime Account to Cash App through Plaid

As I mentioned earlier, Chime can connect with Cash App automatically through Plaid so you'll just have to enter your Chime login details through your bank's digital portal powered by Plaid to have your account automatically linked to Cash App.

To do this:

  1. Open Cash App on your phone.
  2. Go to Linked Banks, then tap Link Bank.
  3. Follow the prompts to launch the Plaid screen, then search for and select Chime bank from the list.
  4. Enter your Chime banking login details to verify your identity and finish the connection.

Step 3: Transfer the Money from Cash App to Chime

Now that you have linked your Cash App account to Chime, you can initiate the transfer from your Cash App balance to your Chime account.

Unlike transferring from Chime to Cash App, which can be done instantly at no cost, a Cash App to Chime transfer can take up to 3 business days to complete, and if you need the money transferred instantly, Cash App will charge you a fee for the transfer.

Alternative Methods to Transfer Money from Cash App to Chime

Besides the Plaid method, there are a few other methods that have served us all well over the years. My best is the Chime debit card method since this one works in both ways you'll want to transfer the money.

Method 1: Use Your Chime Debit Card

This is my preferred method to transfer the money because it is seamless and doesn't require excessive steps. I primarily use this method for a Chime-to-Cash App transfer and used it just once to transfer $80 I received from a friend through Cash App, and I did that in just two steps:

  1. I linked my Chime debit card to Cash App.
  2. Once that was done, I initiated a withdrawal from Cash App to my Chime debit card.

I was charged $1.20 since I chose the instant transfer option (with a 1.5% rate applied for instant withdrawals from Cash App) and received $78.80 on Chime.

If you don't want to be charged for this service, you can always use the standard withdrawal option, which is free of cost and completes in 1 to 3 business days.

Method 2: Using a Linked Bank Account (Indirect Method)

If you previously read our guide on how to transfer money from Chime to PayPal, then this process will be familiar to you.

It involves linking your bank account to both Cash App and Chime, withdrawing the money from Cash App to your bank, and then transferring the money all the way to your Chime account.

The process alone can take up to 5 business days because there are a lot of bank-to-bank transactions involved in it. I wouldn't recommend this if you need a faster method.

How Long Does it Take to Transfer Money from Cash App to Chime?

Cash App to Chime transfers can take up to 3 business days if you aren't in a hurry to receive your money on Chime, but if you need the money instantly, you'll be charged a rate ranging from 0.5 to 2.5% depending on the rate applied to your Cash App account.

Final Thoughts on How to Transfer Money from Cash App to Chime

Cash App works with Chime directly through Plaid, which adds up to the indirect methods we've been using for years now.

I've compiled all the methods in this guide just so you'll be able to use the one that best suits your needs.

So which method did you use? Let me know in the comments section.
