Zelle typically works with US banks, and you won't find any prepaid cards listed in the official list of the Zelle network.
However, I've found a few prepaid cards that work well with Zelle, especially those issued by a few banks that participate in the Zelle network.
What Prepaid Cards Work With Zelle?
As mentioned earlier, Zelle only supports prepaid cards issued by a few banks (usually the most established banks) in the Zelle network.
During my research, I found a few prepaid cards like the Access 360° Prepaid Card, the PNC SmartAccess® Prepaid Visa® Card, and the Chase Liquid Card (now called Chase Secure Banking) to work well with Zelle. In fact, other users have confirmed this.
Just so you know, don't expect to see these prepaid cards listed on the Zelle bank list. You'll have to link the prepaid card to Zelle just as you'll link a debit card that's issued by a US bank that's not fully integrated with Zelle.
To do so:
- Download the Zelle app and tap "Get Started".
- Enter and verify your U.S. mobile number with Zelle.
- Scroll down and select "Don't see your bank?" when the bank list appears.
- Tap "Continue" to proceed with manual setup.
- Enter your 16-digit prepaid card number, expiration date, CVV, and billing ZIP code.
- Complete your profile with your name and email to finish setup.
That's it, you just linked your eligible prepaid card to Zelle.
Can Zelle Be Connected To A Prepaid Card?
Yes, Zelle can be connected to a prepaid card only if the prepaid card was issued by a Zelle Network bank (and it's good you know that it won't always work in all cases).
