If you're looking to use Apple Pay for your online purchases at Dollar Tree, you'll be disappointed to know that the discount retail giant does not accept the digital wallet for online orders.
In fact, in their words:
We are not able to accept purchase orders, coupons, Google Wallet™, or Apple Pay™ at this time.
Perhaps, this means you can't use Apple Pay to place online orders at Dollar Tree, but this doesn't, however, mean that you can't still use Apple Pay for in-store payments.
That said, I'll show you the steps you need to take if you need to make in-store payments at Dollar Tree with Apple Pay.
How to Set Up Apple Pay to Use at Dollar General Stores
If you haven't set up Apple Pay yet, you'll need to have it set up before even thinking of using it for payments—that's the logic.
The good thing is that it doesn't require you to download something extra on your phone, and all you'll need are the following to set up your wallet.
- An Apple Pay-supported device.
- A card (credit or debit card) that works with digital wallets like Apple Pay.
- Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode enabled for your device.
Once you're sure you have the aforementioned requirements in place, you'll need to follow the steps below to set up Apple Pay.
- Open the Wallet app on your iPhone and tap the plus button to add your card.
- Now, you'll need to tap "Debit or Credit Card" followed by "Continue".
- At this point, you'll be required to provide your card details. You can do so by scanning the card with your phone or simply entering your card details manually into the required fields.
- Once you're done providing your card details, just follow the onscreen instructions to get things done.
If everything goes well and the card doesn't require additional verification, you should be done with setting up Apple Pay in just a few minutes.
After setting up your Apple Wallet, you should be ready to use it wherever it is accepted.
How to Use Apple Pay at Dollar Tree
We've seen earlier that Apple Pay isn't officially supported at Dollar Tree, and while this targets online orders, it doesn't mean all local Dollar Tree stores will accept Apple Pay—only a few of them will, just as is the case with Dollar General.
Well, I got this confirmation only from real customers' experiences shared on social media.
That said, if you go through this Reddit thread, you'll find out that while some customers were able to use Apple Pay at some local Dollar Tree stores, a good number of them weren't able since their local stores did not actually accept the digital wallet.
This just still brings us to our very first point that DT does not actually support Apple Pay.
However, a very good way to find out by yourself is to visit your local DT store and inquire about their support for Apple Pay. In fact, if you see a contactless symbol just at the doorfront or cashier's desk, it should already give you hope that they support the digital wallet—but ask first before even starting shopping.
If they do accept Apple Pay, just shop as you normally do, then come to the cashier and request to make your payment through Apple Pay. They'll provide you with a contactless reader that you'll have to scan and complete the payment on your phone.
In case the DT store does not accept Apple Pay directly, you can always chat with a store attendant and ask if they use Apple Pay personally. Apple Pay is very popular in the US, and there's a great chance that at least one employee uses the digital wallet. If they do, just ask for their help with making the payment with what they accept, and then you send the equivalent amount with a tip to them through Apple Pay.
It should work if the employee is willing to help you.
Can I Get Cashback With Apple Pay at Dollar Tree?
Yes, you can get cashback with Apple Pay at Dollar Tree if you use your Apple Cash at the checkout. Of course, you won't be using Apple Pay directly, but you should be able to get up to 3% cashback for any eligible purchase made through your Apple Cash.
What Other Payment Methods Does Dollar Tree Accept?
While it doesn't officially accept Apple Pay, Dollar Tree supports a good number of both traditional and digital payment methods.
That said, it supports cards from major issuers like American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and also supports digital payment options like PayPal and PayPal Credit.
Final Thoughts
While Dollar Tree caters to offer customers shopping convenience and off-price items, they don't yet support one of the most convenient and safe payment methods, Apple Pay for online orders.
However, if you're shopping in-store, there's a great chance that your local DT supports the digital wallet, and you can best find out by just inquiring.
Either way, whether your local DT store accepts Apple Pay or not, I've explained how you can use Apple Pay to make in-store payments at your own convenience.
