Apple Pay is constantly gaining traction—there's no doubt about that since most restaurants, gas stations, and even grocery stores are rapidly adopting it as a convenient and safe payment method.
Talking of grocery stores that have adopted Apple Pay, ShopRite is one that stopped accepting the digital wallet a few years back, at least, until the situation changed a few months later with a major update they did following the increasing demand for Apple Pay from customers.
So if you're looking to use Apple Pay at ShopRite, I'll show you the steps you need to take to make this possible, even if the digital wallet isn't available at your local store.
Does Shoprite Take Apple Pay?
Yes, ShopRite does take Apple Pay as a payment method.
If you've gone through a few sources on the internet, you'll find this to be kind of bizarre stuff, right? Well, me too, I thought of it that way—just as anyone else believed, until I came across this Reddit thread where a user announces ShopRite reinstatement for Apple Pay as a payment method.
In the thread, the user mentions:
After removing support for Apple Wallet for their reward card a few months ago, ShopRite grocery stores released an update to their app today that reinstated the feature.
I had been constantly leaving feedback requesting them to put it back, and I know others have as well. Very pleased to see they listened to customer demand.
I have to say, this isn't something you get to see with most grocery stores—giving a listening ear to their customers. This makes them even more appealing and convenient to shop at, as compared to other retailers who have other lucrative ambitions.
Perhaps, this wasn't the case a few years back, as I mentioned earlier, and you can consider this an update to what I mentioned on ShopRite's support for Apple Pay in one of my previous articles.
Following this, you can use Apple Pay for both online and in-store checkout at ShopRite, and while I know some ShopRite stores don't yet accept the digital wallet, I believe a good number of them should do.
And of course, the best way to confirm whether your local store accepts the digital payment is by calling and inquiring about their support for Apple Pay.
But don't worry, even if your local ShopRite store doesn't directly accept Apple Pay, I'll show you an indirect way to use the digital wallet for payments.
But before heading to those steps, let's set up our wallet.
How to Set Up Apple Pay to Use at ShopRite
Apple Pay is very easy to set up—of course, that's if you're using a supported device and have a supported payment card.
That said, if you are using at least an iPhone 6+ and have a supported payment card (debit or credit card), you should be able to set up Apple Pay with the following steps:
- Open the Wallet app on your iPhone and tap the plus button.
- Select "Debit or Credit Card", then tap "Continue".
- Now, you'll have to link your card to Apple Pay either automatically (by scanning the card with iSight) or by entering your card details manually where required.
- After providing your card details, just follow the steps to finish the process.
That's all you need to set up Apple Pay. If everything went through successfully, you should be ready to use it wherever it is accepted, even at ShopRite.
How to Use Apple Pay at ShopRite
ShopRite made an update to its mobile app a few years back just so it could support digital wallets like Apple Pay. So, to use Apple Pay for your online orders at ShopRite, I recommend updating the app to its latest version on your iPhone. No need to do this on Android since Apple Pay isn't supported on Android devices, and you'll definitely not see Apple Pay listed as a payment method at the checkout if you're ordering from an Android device.
Either way, you can still place your orders through the ShopRite website if you have an Android device instead, you should see Apple Pay listed as a payment method from there.
Placing orders with Apple Pay online is just as easy as you usually do, with the only difference being that you'll have to select Apple Pay at the checkout instead. Even if it wasn't listed before, you should see it listed now because you have Apple Pay set up correctly.
Now, if you're looking to shop in-store with Apple Pay, you'll have to visit your local ShopRite store and check for the contactless symbol. If you see it, then know they accept Apple Pay.
However, the best way to be sure about this is to ask a store attendant to know if they accept Apple Pay. If they confirm to accept the digital wallet, just shop as you normally do, then proceed to the checkout and inform the cashier you want to pay with Apple Pay.
They'll provide you with a code to scan with your phone to complete the payment from your phone. After you get the beep sound, you should know everything went well and you can carry your groceries back home.
Now, in case Apple Pay isn't supported at your local grocery store or you don't see it listed on the online checkout, you can still use your Apple Cash to make the payment. It should work just as any card, and even comes with a cashback feature of up to 3% on all eligible purchases.
At the end, you'll even see that using the Apple Cash card at ShopRite is even more convenient and helps you save on your shopping than the digital wallet itself.
What Other Payment Methods Does ShopRite Accept?
ShopRite is open to accept most payment methods, ranging from traditional payment methods (credit or debit cards, cash, cheques) to options like EBT cards.
Any of those should work just as well at ShopRite.
Final Thoughts
ShopRite accepts Apple Pay as a payment method, though it wasn't the case a few years back.
But now, you can use Apple Pay at the checkout be it online or in-store, to make your payment. And even if your local store doesn't accept Apple Pay, you can always use your Apple Cash and earn cashback on your eligible purchases.
