Yes, Stop and Shop does take Apple Pay as a payment method.
In fact, this was confirmed by Stop & Shop through a tweet they shared on X a few years ago, and in their words:
Now you can make your checkout even quicker! We accept Apple Pay, Android Pay, and Samsung Pay in all stores.
For sure, this isn't just about Apple Pay, but about mobile wallets in general.
One thing, however, I've learned about retailers when it comes to their support for digital wallets is that you can't just take what they mention on their official pages as a real-life fact.
That said, I did some digging through forums to get experienced customers' experience with Apple Pay at Stop & Shop, and I just had the confirmation I needed to base myself on what Stop & Shop officially mentioned.
As you can see from the screen capture above, I had two customers confirm the retailer's support for Apple Pay, as they've used it at their stores before.
So if you're looking to use Apple Pay at Stop & Shop, I'll show you the steps you need to set up your Wallet and use it for payments at the retailer.
How to Set Up Apple Pay to Use at Stop & Shop
If you've had to set up Apple Pay before, you can skip this step and proceed with the next section, but if this is your first time, you need to know that Apple Pay is already available on your phone through the Wallet app. It just needs to be activated by linking a supported payment card (debit or credit card).
Of course, you'll need to be using an Apple Pay-supported device, which is at least an iPhone 6+ or later version.
To set up Apple Pay on your phone:
- Open the Wallet app and tap the plus button.
- Tap "Debit or Credit Card", then "Continue".
- Now, you'll need to provide your card details. You can do so automatically by scanning the card within the Wallet app or simply filling the required fields manually with your card details.
- Once you're done entering your card details, just follow the remaining steps to finish the process.
You should have Apple Pay ready in just a few minutes if everything went well during the setup process. And now, you should be ready for the next step.
How to Use Apple Pay at Stop & Shop
Stop & Shop supports Apple Pay both online (through the web or app) and at all their store locations—that we already know.
What else you should know is that the steps to using Apple Pay online and in-store aren't the same, but are all pretty simple and straightforward, though.
So, to use Apple Pay for your Stop & Shop online payments:
- Open the Stop & Shop app and shop as you normally do.
- After selecting your items, proceed to the checkout. Make sure you're doing so from your Apple Pay-supported device with the Wallet already set up.
- If your device supports Apple Pay, you should see it listed as a payment method.
- Just select Apple Pay and proceed with the required steps to complete the payment with the digital wallet.
If you are shopping in-store instead, you can use Apple Pay as follows:
- Go to your local Stop & Shop store and pick items you came for.
- At the checkout, tell the cashier you'll be paying with Apple Pay.
- They'll provide you with a code to scan with your phone and complete the payment.
- If you get the beep sound, it means your payment went through successfully.
I know I mentioned that Stop & Shop accepts Apple Pay, but I think it's best you inquire about the store's support for Apple Pay from a store attendant as soon as you arrive at the store.
I'm saying this so you'll avoid any embarrassment in case the store doesn't accept the digital wallet or experiences issues with accepting digital payments at that time.
However, if you are already in the situation, you can always get out of it and still make the payment with Apple Cash, if you have already set up the card. While it's not directly using Apple Pay, it is still using the Wallet for payment, just in an indirect way, and you'll even be earning cashback of up to 3% for using your Apple Cash to make payments.
At the end, you'll see that using the Apple Cash card is way more convenient and beneficial in a way that you earn cashback for using it.
Does Stop & Shop Accept Google Pay?
Yes, Stop & Shop accepts Google Pay as a payment method both online and in-store. They started accepting Google Pay at the same time they began accepting Apple Pay, and at that time, the GPay was still called Android Pay.
What Other Payment Methods Does Stop & Shop Accept?
Stop & Shop accepts many different payment methods, besides digital wallets like Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay.
That said, they accept other methods like credit or debit cards, EBT cards, Stop & Shop rewards card, and even the "old" traditional cash.
