Snapchat is one of those social platforms that take privacy to the next level. Unlike similar competitors like Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, etc, Snapchat notifies users about activities that have to do with their privacy carried out by other users, including taking screenshots.

This means that if you take a screenshot of your chat or a media sent by another user in your chat with someone, Snapchat will notify the other user that you've taken screenshots of the chat. This goes for both Android and iPhone.

This can be really annoying especially if you're looking to be anonymous with a couple of things on the platform. Thankfully, there are a few ways you can go through this anti-screenshot feature.

With that said, this guide compiles the different ways to take screenshots on Snapchat without letting the other users know.

Can You Screenshot On Snapchat Without Them Knowing?

If I were to answer this question directly, then the answer would be no because you cannot directly take screenshots on Snapchat without letting the other user know.

Snapchat does this especially on iPhone to enhance privacy and security when using the app—and getting through this anti-screenshot on iPhone can be really tricky because this one isn't open source, unlike Android.

However, if I were to answer indirectly, then I'd say Yes—you can take screenshots on Snapchat without them knowing through a couple of tricky ways that work best for both Android and iPhone.

How to Screenshot On Snapchat Without Them Knowing iPhone and Android

I've tried many different methods for this and found only a few to work. I tried methods like the Airplane and Remix method, which are the most popular out there, but believe me when I tell you that Snapchat has already blocked these ones.

In fact, most of you probably know about this already but it is just a simple reminder that what I'll show you has nothing to do with any of those.

The methods I'll show below work best for anyone regardless of whether you're an Android or iOS user. However, you'll need two smart devices for most of the methods. Don't bother yourself, it doesn't matter if it is an Android, iPhone, or even a PC.

Method 1: Use Your Device's Recents Screen

Using your device's recents screen is a practical and fast method to take screenshots without the other user knowing. If you don't know about the recent screen, it is that recent task list that shows the recent apps you opened on your phone.

On Android, you can access this screen by tapping on the recent button at the bottom of your screen, and on iPhone, you can access it by swiping up from the bottom of the screen and then pausing at the center of the screen until the recent apps appear.

Now that you know how to access the recents screen, let's see how you can use this feature to take screenshots on Snapchat without others knowing.

  1. Open Snapchat and go to the media or chat you want to screenshot.
  2. Now depending on your operating system (Android or iPhone), navigate to your device's recents screen as I showed above.
  3. Let Snapchat be the most recently access app on the recent's screen then take the screenshot as it is.
  4. After taking the screenshot, crop it till it fits the screen and do the necessary edits you want from your phone's image editor.

This method is practical and effective because the user on the other side won't be notified that you've taken screenshots of the chat. After all, you were not active in the app while taking the screenshot. It was running just in the background.

Method 2: Use Another Device to Take the Screenshot

The most traditional and effective way in all cases to take screenshots on Snapchat without them knowing is by using another device to take the screenshot.

I guess you know how it works? If you don't, then here's how to use this method:

  1. Get a different device around and open the Camera—it doesn't matter if it's your second, a family, or a friend's device.
  2. Now, open the chat or media you want to screenshot on your device.
  3. Place your phone on a flat and clean surface and take a picture of what you want to screenshot on Snapchat.

If you're skilled in photo editing, you can edit the picture to make it even more natural by playing with the image's saturation and brightness. You can also use a background remover to remove the parts you don't want to show up in the image.

Method 3: Use a Screen Mirroring App

Screen mirroring apps are becoming increasingly popular as they help developers and make tricks possible. I have a particular preference for one of the popular, if not the most popular option out there, ApowerMirror because it is a cross-platform app. This means it features apps for Android, iOS (iPhone and iPad), and even PC (Windows and Mac).

The essence of using a mirroring app is to mirror the screen of your phone to another phone or PC, the choice is yours at this stage. Once you've mirrored your phone's screen, you can then take screenshots on the other device which won't, in any way, affect the phone whose screen is being mirrored.

So let's see how you can use a screen mirroring app to take screenshots on Snapchat without them knowing.

  1. Download ApowerMirror on your two phones from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. You can also download the PC version from their official website.
  2. Open the app on your two phone's after you done downloading. If you're using PC as a second device and trying to connect with a USB cord, you might be required to install your phone's drivers. So my recommendation here is to go wireless—and make sure your two devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  3. Grant the app all the permissions on your two phones and tap the "Mirror" button on the center of the screen on your main phone.
  4. On the other device, selectt your main phone on the list that appears and select the option that lets you mirror your main phone on this phone.
  5. Once you're in the mirroring mode, open Snapchat on your main phone and navigate to the media or chat.
  6. Now simply take a screenshot from the other phone mirroring the screen of your main phone.

The sender won't be notified since you took screenshot on a phone that's not directly accessing your chat with them. After taking the screenshot, all you'll need to do is transfer the screenshot to your main phone.

Final Thoughts

Snapchat's anti-screenshot feature is a really annoying one. It's just like WhatsApp's view once feature who's privacy recently got enhanced to prevent screenshots equally.

The fun fact is, most of us can't do without apps like Snapchat. So the best solution we have in this case is to get around these features. This guide compiles the three ways to get around Snapchat's anti-screenshot feature so as to take screenshots without the other user knowing.

The methods work well for both Android and iPhone users, so your OS doesn't matter in this case. You just need to make sure you select the method that works best for you.

If you have any other method you know works well, please share it with us in the comments so we can shout it out loud to others.
