Yes, Giant Eagle does take Apple Pay as a payment method.
In fact, Giant Eagle was one of the first grocery chains to start accepting digital payments like Apple Pay back in December 2027. Since then, Apple Pay has grown to be one of the preferred payment methods for shoppers making in-store purchases and those placing pre-authorized orders through the Giant Eagle app.
If you haven't used Apple Pay at Giant Eagle before, I will show you how to use it at Giant Eagle stores whenever the need arises.
How to Use Apple Pay at Giant Eagle
It is very easy to use Apple Pay at Giant Eagle.
Besides, if you've ever had to shop at any grocery or place that takes Apple Pay, you should already know how easy it is because the steps are typically the same.
However, if you haven't, which I believe is one of the reasons why you are still reading this, let me show you what you need before we get started.
To begin with, you need to make sure that a few requirements are met, which is, of course, having set up your Apple Wallet. Apple Wallet is a safe Wallet in your iOS device that stores your financial information (bank details, credit, and debit cards) for every transaction you'll make through Apple Pay.
So in essence, you'll need to have a valid credit or debit card that will be used as a funding source before taking the next steps below.
To set up your Apple Wallet for payments:
- Open the Wallet app on your iPhone (or any Apple Pay-supported device) and tap the + icon.
- From there, select "Debit or Credit Card", tap "Continue", and scan your card details by placing your iPhone near your card's chip. Or you can just enter your card details manually.
- Finally, follow the on-screen instructions to verify your banking details and you should be good to go with Apple Pay.
Now that you have Apple Pay properly set up on your device (through Apple Wallet), it is time to start making payments at Giant Eagle stores.
To do so:
Go to your favorite Giant Eagle location and shop for what you want, then proceed to the checkout.
- At the checkout, ask the cashier to show you the QR code to scan to make your Apple Pay payment.
- Once you are shown the code, scan it on your device and follow the prompts on your phone to make the payment.
- After you're done making the payment, just inform the cashier of the transaction while showing them the confirmation, and you should be good to go.
Useful tip!
Make sure you collect your physical receipt from the cashier before going, since your phone won't print the confirmation you'll receive through Apple Pay on its own.
Does Giant Eagle Take Apple Pay at Self-checkout?
Yes, Giant Eagle does accept the digital wallet at self-checkouts. You just need to make sure you scan the Apple Pay QR code and take the required steps on your phone to make the payment.
Why is Giant Eagle Not Taking Apple Pay for Online Orders?
Giant Eagle only accepts cash payments for pickups and deliveries and can only accept Apple Pay as an online payment for pre-authorized orders. Temporary holds are usually placed on payment accounts for orders whose amounts aren't known upfront.
So if you are placing an online order and want to pay through Apple Pay, you'll only have to wait until you get delivered before you can make a way with the delivery agent to receive your payment through Apple Pay.
Does Giant Eagle Take Google Pay?
Yes, Giant Eagle does take Google Pay as a digital payment method as well, and just like with Apple Pay, the grocer is limited to offering the payment solution for online orders.
Final Thoughts
Giant Eagle accepts Apple Pay payments both in-store and online (for pre-authorized orders only).
In fact, as earlier mentioned, it was one of the first grocery stores to rapidly adapt to the digital trend back in 2017, and by so doing, they've made it very easy and convenient for their customers to make payments through digital wallets like Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and even Venmo.
